In your face, Inlander!
Today was the first day that the public could access the web stream of our news meetings, and an earlier assessment by the Inlander turned out to be almost correct. The weekly identified “the eight people outside the Review’s ‘transparent newsroom’ who actually care…,” and lo and behold, we clocked exactly eight connections to our webcast this morning! Only problem is, seven of those connections were from inside the newsroom. The eighth connection was actually two people - one who watched the first half (and, evidently got bored and left), and another who watched the latter half.
Note: I had previously stated that Pia Hansen was watching from home. She observantly pointed out that she’s been in her office here in the newsroom this whole time, possibly under some sort of quarantine. But probably not.
Clearing the air
Sports editor Joe Palmquist is putting out some fires over a wire story that he said probably shouldn’t have run in his section in the first place. The story was about former Gonzaga coach Dan Fitzgerald being hired at Northern Quest Casino. Probably more of a business brief, Palmquist said, but that’s not the problem. The story stated that Fitzgerald distributed money to GU players, which has never been proven. Fitzgerald’s new bosses understandably had some questions for their new hire after reading the story, and the former coach gave Palmquist a call. We’ve corrected the story online, and will run a correction in print tomorrow morning.
Update: The AP has moved a correction on the wire, which is posted here .
