If you’re watching any of the World Cup, you might have noticed that the question being posed by all of the sportscasters is: In the U.S. team’s upcoming game with Ghana on Thursday, which group will show up – the one that folded against the Czechs, or the “gutty” one that showed up to play Italy to a 1-1 tie?

In all the comments accompanying replays of Brian McBride’s mugging at the elbow of Italy’s Danilele De Rossi – which had the U.S. forward running off the field face bloodied – and the complimentary remarks about the Americans playing much of a scoreless second half with only nine players, one thing is rarely mentioned: No American player scored.

The goal credited to them was an Italian own goal, accidentally kicked in by defender Cristian Zacccardo. Which means that in two games the goals totals are U.S. opponents 5, U.S. players 0.
