Rumor laid to rest

Ken Paulman

On Sunday, political reporter Jim Camden (hopefully) put an end to rumors that Jim West is plotting a run for the state Senate. Despite posting the information to his blog on Thursday, Camden said the rumor was still circulating widely at Democratic caucuses over the weekend. Camden acknowledged that caucus-goers probably aren’t heavy internet users, and senior editor Carla Savalli wondered aloud if we shouldn’t have run something in print sooner.

A day in the life of a sports editor

KGA radio lost its feed with one minute to go in yesterday’s Gonzaga game. So what to some people do? Call S-R sports editor Joe Palmquist on his cell phone.

Palmquist had enough on his plate this weekend without having to troubleshoot someone else’s radio feeds. With the State B and WCC tournaments running simultaneously, this was one of the busiest times of the year for the sports department. Valley editor Jeff Jordan counted 17 live bylines (that is, stories written that day, rather than in advance) in Sunday’s sports section.

A new face

After enduring weeks of abuse over the daily crossword puzzle, features editor Pia Hansen was bracing for the worst with the addition of self-described “agnostic humanist” Donald Clegg to the Faith and Values lineup. However, Hansen said, the feedback has been mostly supportive, with only one email expressing any great degree of indignation. News is a Conversation blogger Russ Lipton has voiced his initial approval, calling the choice a “nice step forward.” Feel free to post your thoughts there.
