Tomorrow’s front page
Here’s what we have planned for Page 1 tomorrow:
—The state parks commission is considering auctioning off about 47 acres of land along the north bank of the Spokane River in Spokane Valley. The land is surplus land that the parks commission has identified as not being heavily used for recreation and not containing significant wildlife habitat.
—The new Spokane County sheriff is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to solving a 1974 case of a missing 16-year-old Spokane girl, Laurie Partridge.
—Coverage of Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne’s Senate confirmation hearings, including his surprise opposition to proposed land sales.
—After nearly a year of effort by a 25-person state committee and tens of thousands of online votes, Gov. Chris Gregoire unveiled her choice of design for Washington’s commemorative quarter. It pictures two state icons: a salmon leaping from water, and a backdrop of evergreen forest and Mount Rainier.
—A wire service report that says poor women are getting pregnant unintentionally at considerably higher rates now than in the mid-1990s, and they are giving birth to many more unplanned children and having more abortions.
