I-90 map

Ken Paulman

Steve Smith had one complaint about the graphic that ran with Saturday’s I-90 closure story - the map was too small, he said, which made it difficult to read. We’re going to re-run the map this weekend, probably Sunday, along with some more details about the best ways to get in and out of downtown.

On a related note, there’s been some confusion over which side of the freeway will be closed. It’s the eastbound lanes, i.e. the south half of the viaduct, that will be under construction. Either way, please follow the orange cones to the appropriate side of the road.

And on a related related note, we’re reviving Amy Cannata’s Getting There blog, which will be the go-to source for information on the I-90 project and other road work around the region this summer (like the rest of the county, it’s under construction, so give us a day or two).

Just the facts, ma’am

Another story we’ll potentially be re-running is Saturday’s story on North Idaho’s congressional primary . Idaho editor Scott Maben said he was dismayed that the candidates’ profile information wasn’t included with the story. The profiles were run the following day, but Smith suggested we should run the story again closer to the election so the information is all in one package.

Taking the stand

Reporter Bill Morlin is picking up coverage of Arlin Jordin’s trial as courts reporter Tom Clouse has been subpoenaed by the defense to testify. We’re told that the defense wants unpublished, off-the-record information from Clouse’s interview with one of the victims, and the judge has rejected our lawyers’ argument the information is privileged. That ruling is being appealed, but in the meantime, Clouse is in a pretty delicate situation. “It raises the possibility that Tom has to testify or be held in contempt,” Smith said.
