Mysterious disappearances

Ken Paulman

Absent from today’s story on CEO compensation is a photo of Jack W. Oehlke, CEO of Key Tronic Corp., who pulled down a cool $630,865 last year. This wasn’t for lack of trying - the company refused to provide a photo once they found out what the story was about, said business editor Addy Hatch. (Here’s a PDF of the page if you want to take a look at the graphic).

Also, some readers may have noticed that a police statement was posted along with the Otto Zehm story last night. It was pulled after an editor noticed that reporter Tom Clouse had underlined a couple of phrases in the statement and written question marks in the margins. Routine notetaking, but something that could easily be misinterpreted as editorializing. We’ll have a clean copy up shortly.

What’s in a name?

The Opera House has been rechristened the INB Performing Arts Center , which means we’ve got to revisit the style guide and agree on a truncated version that will fit headlines. Assistant city editor Dan Hansen asked if we have an obligation to go along with it and use the corporate name (for instance, is it the Orange Bowl, or is it the FedEx Orange Bowl?).

General consensus was, a name is a name, and just like SafeCo Field (or Wrigley Field, for that matter), we need to use whatever the official name is. Otherwise, people might start referring to us as just “the newspaper.”
