DVDs will be around … until they aren’t

Depending on whom you talk to, the term “hedging” means different things. For example, it could mean protecting yourself against financial loss. Or it could mean “an intentionally noncommittal or ambiguous statement.”

Home Media Retailing is an online service that issues business reports for the entertainment retailer. In a report sent out today, it addresses the issue of movie downloads. And, addressing his company’s position on DVDs versus computer technology, here is what HMR quotes Blockbuster chairman and CEO John Antioco as having told Reuters on Tuesday:

“We think packaged media remains king for a long time,” Antioco said. “[But] we can’t afford not to be in [downloads].”
