Frames
The morning meeting started at 10:30 today. Steve Smith asked me to make sure and let everyone know that we regret not giving prior notice for the time change based on a last-minute decision.
The meeting started with a look at some missed opportunities in framing stories as noted by vacationing senior editor Carla Savalli. Through Steve, Carla said that she thought we might have done something more with the warming center brief (B4). Steve mentioned maybe framing it in such a way as to empower readers to do something more. The other story was in the the 125th anniversary story. She thought we might have done something more with the students’ essays to frame the story differently.
In other talk, Jim Camden mentioned John Craig’s story about amputee bank robbers saying that John Craig is the “master of weird details” in reference to the line, “a witness said the Wells Fargo robber was a double-amputee who hid $100 bills in an artificial leg.”
Looking ahead:
JoNel Aleccia is working on a story about a heart repair surgery on a little girl and The Spokane Indians are looking at a “new team identity.”
Be well.
Joe
