Walking is good exercise, too
I got about two hours sleep last night. Jet lag truly is a bitch.
Of course, part of the problem was that our bed here at the Hotel Afa feels more like an ironing board than something bearing an actual mattress. Still, the room is nice: big, high-ceilinged, complete with a brand-new bathroom (though with a tub, no shower), cable TV, high-speed Internet access, and a huge picture window 15 feet wide, four feet high. In any city in Italy, this room would go for 120 euro or more a night.
Since ABA/CEELI (American Bar Association/Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative), the organization for whom Mary Pat (and maybe I) will be doing some volunteer work, is picking up the tab, I have no idea what this room runs. But I doubt it costs that much.
So here in the early evening of Monday, I’m bushed. But if I take a nap now, as MP is doing, I’ll never get on a regular basis. So, man, power through.
We spent the day getting to know the people with whom MP will be working, all of whom seem personable and friendly, serious about what they’re doing but not lacking senses of humor.
To get to the ABA/CEELI office, we took a cab – which cost about 3.50 euro and took about 15 minutes due to the narrow streets and bumper-to-bumper traffic. Later, after touring the offices and having lunch, we talked back to the hotel – which was free … and took about 15 minutes.
Looks like having a sense of humor will definitely come in handy.
