Let’s hope there’s no ‘Psycho’ nearby

Dan

The many ways that life resembles movies can blow your mind. Take the walk from Hotel Afa , where we live here in Pristina, to the ABA-CEELI offices.

On that daily 15-20-minute trek (depending on whether we’re going up or downhill), we pass by a couple of huge trees set on the edge of the University of Pristina campus.

And every evening, those trees are filed with ravens. Huge ravens that squawk and do fly-bys and, in general, make life hell for the flocks of pigeons that usually dot the roofs of nearby apartments.

The noise they – the ravens – make is fierce. And the overall effect is as close to Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” that I’ve ever experienced.

It’s interesting that the Albanian flag , which you see flying everywhere, is a black two-headed eagle set against a bright red backdrop. I’m not sure that this celebration of black bird is a sign of synchronicity, since eagles aren’t ravens.

But I’m pretty sure that Hitchcock would see the humor in it. Or the horror.
