A mixed bag for Monday
It was a typically quiet Monday morning news meeting today, but two questions of story play came up from the weekend.
Steve Smith described Saturday’s story on a veteran of three wars who died in the parking lot of the VA hospital as “the outrage story of the weekend,” and said it probably should have run on the front page.
Smith also asked whether the obituary for sister city founder Ed Tsutakawa should have run on the front page, but deferred to people who have been in the area longer for an assessment. “I think it would have been justified on page one, but I don’t think it was necessarily underplayed,” said opinion page editor Doug Floyd.
Finally, Smith praised our new .TXT section, now in its second week. It’s an effort to fill out the Monday paper, which is typically light on news.
