* Family Phil reports: “My wife just came home from Skyway Elementary, where she was volunteering. They were in lockdown this morning for 30 minutes because a man with a gun was spotted walking around the school.”

* Dan of the County called with a proposal: How would you like to blog the election from the Kootenai County Courthouse? DOTC thinks it might be fun to get KVNI’s Dick Haugen and I together, with some candidates and political groupies at the courthouse on Election Night. Sounds interesting. We’ll see.

*I just finished interviewing Tom Macy , the Independent candidate for Kootenai County commissioner. He has the right message: Kootenai County should slap a moratorium on growth until it updates its comp plan and zoning ordinances. One comment jumped out at me. He said that the resources of North Idaho have been pillaged by the mining and timber companies — and now the developers are taking the one thing left: open space and beauty. Macy’s the first guy I’ve interviewed for either commish position this spring or now who actually has a solution to the problem. But he doesn’t have the money to get his message out.
