Question: What Were You Doing When Firestorm Hit?
You can read an excerpt about the Firestorm here .
(Today is) the 15th anniversary of a raging fire that swept through much of North Idaho. Hauser was the first community to fall victim to the inferno that came at us from Newman Lake, Washington. I have posted excerpts of the only book I believe written about that day. The book is titled Firestorm and is written by Connie House. I’ve been unable to contact the publisher and the author for permission to share with you just a small part of this history of the fire and the brave men and women who fought it. Fortunately I was in a location that was not evacuated, possibly because the first command post was at City Hall and also because of that, I had electricity and a telephone in my little grocery store at Westside Resort. The firemen would stop in for coffee and to use the restrooms and telephone. It was a very exciting time — Frum Helen Back /Hauser Thoughts.
