Christie Wood: Craig Was There When I Needed Him

I have not told this story before because it was so long ago and it really only mattered to me, but anyway…here goes. As a young enlisted member of the US Air Force I found myself in a situation I did not know how to deal with on my own. I loved the military (still do) and was proud to serve my country. The details are private but suffice to say when I contacted my local Senator Larry Craig he investigated what was happening at my base immediately. I still remember making the phone call to his office from a payphone and crying into the phone. He and his staff took immediate action and followed up with me personnally after the issue was resolved. The base commanders at the time did not seem to want a senator poking his nose around base. I will always be so grateful to him for the difference he made in my life. I got the opportunity 20 years later(last February) to meet him in person in his office in Washington DC. I was there on behalf of North Idaho College asking him to support Pell Grant legislation. I never told him I was that girl from so many years ago. All I know is Gay, Straight, Bi-sexual…who the hell cares as long as no laws are broken. He took care of a young girl from Idaho and he did it because he was my senator. In my eyes he will always be a great man, and he has proven himself time and time again to his constituents — Christie Wood .

DFO: I have a story re: Craig’s office (via former communications director Mike Tracy) coming to the aid of a family member in a desperate situation. May have saved her life. Mebbe I’ll tell it someday. I can testify first hand that the constituent service at his office is top notch.
