Press: How Do You Get Kids to Heed Danger Signs?

Accidents happen. Taking risks hastens them. We’re not accusing anybody of anything, but we feel an agony for the family and friends of 14-year-old Issac Norris and his mom, Glenda. Issac was killed one week ago when the car his mother was driving was slammed by a 2006 Ford Mustang driven by a local 19-year-old. Reports at the scene on Kathleen Avenue indicated the possibility that the Mustang driver and a 17-year-old driving a 2006 Subaru Impreza might have been racing, though police haven’t concluded their investigation and no charges have been filed. But here’s our point: Something horrible happened involving those three vehicles, one boy is dead and his mother is in a Seattle hospital, and we can’t help but think that today, they should both be alive and well — Coeur d’Alene Press.

Question (posed by the Coeur d’Alene Press editorialist): So how do we older people break through the veneer of invulnerability that has accompanied youngsters forever?
