It’s My 2 Cents — 10/21/06

Shortly before closing time Friday evening, I received an e-mail that complained that this blog has been thoroughly infiltrated by liberals. It was brief. Reading between the lines, I figured it was saying that several conservatives no longer post here due to that fact. I didn’t respond to the e-mail. But I’ve thought about it tonight. If the writer knew the individuals behind the pseudonyms here, he’d know how wrong he is. There’s plenty of Republicans on this blog. But few of them are across the board conservative as Facts or Larry Spencer. In fact, there may be the best balance of newbys, oldies, liberals, conservatives, and all shades of in between on this blog today than there ever has been. I’m starting to tire of the terms “liberals” and “conservatives” because most people have a bunch of ideological strains in them. After 20 months of compiling this blog, I realize that it shifts to the right sometimes, to the left at other times. People come and go. I welcome all who come and by and large behave themselves. (If anything, this blog has calmed down since I booted a coupla liberal guys off and a coupla the conservatives left. I don’t miss the flame wars.) Bottom line? I like where the blog is now. I’m not going to change what I’m doing because someone is over in the corner holding his breath until he turns blue. People are free to start their own blogs, if they think they can do a better job. If the day comes when it’s obvious that Huckleberries Online has become a bore, I’ll shut it down and get on with the rest of my life. Until then, onward …
