Inside Huckleberries — 10/26/06
* Jim Hagengruber and Blogmeister Ken (soon to be Features Editor Paulman) both like “The Back 40” for his new enviro column, suggested by A Token D. But I’m partial to Common Ground/Uncommon Ground, suggested by Arpie and Frank Sennett . There’s still time to beat them out of their prize — wood or organic apples. Jim sez he’ll pick one by noon tomorrow.
*You can find that Larry Grant ad on YouTube that’s driving Republicans for Bill Sali (both of them) cuh-razy here .
*Huckleberries hears … that former NIC student/UI grad/Sandpoint native Sarah Palin is leading the Alaska gubernatorial race polls by double digits.
*The latest edition of the North Idaho College Sentinel is now online here .
*A Bonner County Berry Picker reports spotting “Not Bud Again” campaign signs along U.S. Highway 95. Translation: Someone opposes the election of former uber-conservative commissioner Bud Mueller . The signs feature white lettering on a black background with the international symbol for “no” (circle with a slash through it) across Mueller’s name.
*Also, in the Press today (front-page, opening paragraph): “Vice President Dick Cheney is scheduled to arrive at the Coeur d’Alene Airport in Hayden next Thursday, possibly to lend a hand to U.S. Senate candidate Bill Sali . Five points to reporter Marc Stewart for the skewp. Four points taken away for putting Sali in the wrong race. Meanwhile, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I don’t screw-up in the next coupla days, which is easier to do in print than you think.
*As a blogmeister, I view our competitors, the Coeur d’Alene Press, differently today than I did when I was simply a print journalist. It has its niche in the community. We have ours. Viva la difference. However, I can’t help but poke them for that headline on Sholeh Patrick’s column today: “Newspapers include variety of information.” Ya think?
