Bob: Our Kids Are Being Robbed of Halloween

Happy halloween. I used to love this night when I’d hand out candy to literally hundreds of trick or treaters. It’s been many years since more than a dozen or so show up. The streets are pretty empty of kids. They’ve gone to the malls and parties. I really miss the way it used to be, buying bags of candy, hoping my supply would last as I dipped into it myself, counting the trick or treaters, complimenting the really cool costumes, telling some of the teenagers that I’ll give them candy this second time but don’t sneak back for a third trip to my door on the same night. I think kids are being robbed by their well meaning, well sanitizing parents. Robbed of the one night when children owned the streets, when the adults were at their beck and call…give me a treat or I’ll give you a trick — Bob /Unbearable Bobness of Being.
