The Slice: They’re just asking to be reer-ended

Have you seen those bumper stickers that say something like “I’m from Hillyard and I voat”?

OK, let’s move on.

Pets’ favorite flavors of ice cream: Linda Lee Kershner’s Dalmatian, Charlie, gets a little scoop of Blue Bunny French Vanilla each night at the same time Kershner’s husband has dessert.

Sophie the cat, who belongs to Nick Britz, likes Dreyer’s Toffee Bar Crunch.

And Kim Taylor’s pooch, Magoo, has a thing for peppermint ice cream.

Definitions of “roughing it”: “When one of the two toilets in my house is out of commission,” wrote Rebecca McNeill.

“Motel 6,” said Mary Cayer.

“Not having the S-R crossword puzzle when I’m going into the bathroom,” said Gary Pierce.

And Carol Kettleson has a friend who says the answer is “slow room service.”

Slice reader Niles Schomburg wonders: “At what age should a man be required to begin wearing his baseball cap frontward?”

Well, Niles, the word “required” could trigger a civil liberties debate. But if we sub in the word “encouraged,” the correct answer is “6 years old.”

“Different schools, same stripes: “My husband, Don Gallagher, was a 1962 Lewis and Clark Tiger and I was a 1969 Grand Coulee Tiger,” wrote Marjie Gallagher.

“A quiz (fill in the blank): “There’s this perception that () is a great place to grow up, but that you have to go elsewhere to prosper.”

Nope. That’s a quote from a column in The New York Times about Buffalo’s image problems.

“It’s all relative: “My great-great-great- grandfather, Andrew Kent, died defending the Alamo,” wrote Barbara Hooper.

Lauren Zeck said her great-great-great-aunt on her mother’s side was a first lady of Texas during its short life as a republic in the 1840s.

LaFaye Smith of Post Falls said her father was a cousin of Gen. Omar Bradley.

Coeur d’Alene’s Gary Mamola reported that his father’s uncle was the chauffeur for silent movie star Rudoph Valentino.

And Liberty Lake’s Joan Matlack said her husband is a distant relative of William Matlack, the scribe who penned the Declaration of Independence.

“Asked and answered: “What’s the best thing about hair turning gray?” wrote Kevin O’Reilly. “It means you still have some.”

“Search party: Peter Williams said Googling “Spokane” and “genius” produces interesting results.

And Gary Polser reported that the same can be said of “Spokane Life.”

“Today’s Slice question: About what subject do you possess the greatest store of arguably useless knowledge?
