Hump Day: Bonds watch ends
“We don’t have Barry Bonds to kick around anymore,” said managing editor Gary Graham about Barry Bonds’ historic 756th home run.
Graham said he did a survey of newspapers around the country and the New York Times and Washington Post each made the story their centerpiece. The Spokesman-Review had a special “skybox” feature across the top of A1 and a lead-story package on the cover of sports.
Did the S-R underplay it, it was asked at the table? “I’m comfortable with it,” said Graham. Sports ran an Associated Press game story by former Spokesman-Review employee Janie McCauley and a commentary by Gannett’s Mike Lopresti.
Other stories drawing comments from the group at the table: the New York rabbis in Coeur d’Alene; the federal contractor voyeur story; Pia Hansen’s column on a man’s collection of items from a former missile silo; and online’s most-read story today, moves at Wendle Motors.
