Memories of Elvis’ visit to Spokane
And there’s also a Doug Clark video: The Sandwich that killed Elvis
Some of the magic moments:
“WOW! You can see the, the glistening bacon, uh—”
“It almost looks like an autopsy” (Clark, on the cut sandwich)
“You know the bacon kinda mellows the peanut butter.” (Carl Naccarato)
“Just take your time there, I don’t wanna call 911.” (Naccarato, to Clark)
Yesterday, Clark brought about half of that sandwich back to the newsroom. Staffers ate it and it went very quickly. No word on any post-sandwich consequences.
In related news, Senior editor Carla Savalli is in Elvis Land right now. Editor Steve Smith suggested that Savalli cover the tribute artist competition.
“She doesn’t do impersonations, she told me,” said city editor Addy Hatch with emphasis on the words
doesn’t do
. “She’s on vacation, for God’s sake.”
Other notes
Business editor Alison Boggs noticed that the skybox has been venue for a lot cutout art such as today’s Elvis photo and yesterday’s toys photos. The design is not fully inside the skybox, but rather it pokes into the space behind ‘THE SPOKESMAN-REVIEW’ logo. Managing editor Gary Graham said this kind of art is not going to be a regular fixture, just for stories that call for special attention.
