It just gets better and better

Thuy

• “Tell your editor he sucks.” - From a sports reader to a sports staffer, about why the Eastern Washington University coverage wasn’t on the front page of Sports.

• “Are they for them or against them?” - Reporter Jim Camden, about The Inlander’s cover story on vegetables.

Editor Steve Smith brought the latest Inlander issue with a very appealing cover story to the meeting, but bashed it for not having more watchdog news. Smith had also put in a $5 bill in the swear jar before the meeting began. It also became a pre-penalty for his taking a shot at Larry Shook’s wife (author, publisher, etc) for channeling a warrior god. Smith 5, Savalli 0.

• Newsroom habits may be more foreign to 10 a.m. guests than we expected. Daniel, 25, looked at the jar and wondered if he was supposed to leave a tip.

Kudos

Helitack on page A1 , with tasteful use of a ‘scene-setter’ lead paragraph.
• recent Peter Barnes coverage in Spokane Valley of complex issues
Lake City athlete piece on page C1 , although managing editor Gary Graham said the story didn’t mention the featured football player’s academic interests for college.
Rich Landers’ column today ; also watch for this weekend’s Outdoors section featuring the fall season.
