Prof: Craig’s Political Career “Shot”

Mike Vogt/Idaho Press-Tribune, AP Photo
Senator Larry Craig, R-Idaho, right, accompanied by his wife Suzanne, left, approaches a podium, Tuesday afternoon in Boise, where he spoke to reporters.

Political scientist Steve Shaw of Northwest Nazarene University said the political damage to Sen. Larry Craig from the current scandal comes not from the suggestion that Craig could be gay, but from the nature of the incident in which he was arrested, the way he handled it, and its contrast to positions he’s taken throughout his career. “If he were openly gay and had been elected as a gay official, it would still be an issue, but it wouldn’t be the kind of issue that it is now for Craig,” Shaw said. “That’s why I think he’s damaged himself so severely that his political career is shot” — Betsy Russell /Eye On Boise.

Question: What matters most to you: 1. The sleaziness of the bathroom episode, 2. Craig’s hypocrisy, or 3. That Craig’s a closet gay or bisexual?
