Huckleberries: Craig’s explanation met with giant flushing sound
Of Larry Craig and Public Bathrooms: After 42 months of blogging, I got my wish for a feature that will allow me to conduct polls at Huckleberries Online. I posted my first poll question Tuesday after Craig denied wrongdoing in that Minnesota airport restroom: “Do you believe U.S. Sen. Larry Craig when he says he didn’t do anything wrong?” Within hours, 103 readers had responded: 61 said “hell no,” 25 “no,” 11 “yes,” and six “dunno.” In other words, 83 percent of Repub North Idaho didn’t believe Craig … BTW, 83 percent of the 10,789 respondents to a CNN.com poll Tuesday said Craig should resign … In a Huckleberries Gone Wireless interview this summer, Craig spokesman Sid Smith said he wanted to move back to Coeur d’Alene someday. I can picture 1996 Coeur d’Alene High grad Sid sitting in his Boise office while the phones ring off the hook with calls from the circling media, thinking of the Lake City as a voice pops up in his head: “Wanna get away?” … As you know, Craig said he accidentally touched the shoe of the man in the next stall with his shoe b/c he has a “wide stance” when using the restroom. HBOer Cabbage Boy had an appropriate observation: “if you have a wide stance, always use the handicap stall” … I hate to admit that scandals like Craig’s are good for blog traffic. On Monday, HBO registered a record 13,202 page views and 7,157 unique views. However, there’s always room for more.
