A recent survey by remodeling expert and author Dan Fritschen found that remodeling remains big among homeowners. He surveyed 5,000 homeowners and found the following:

32 percent planned to be their own remodeling contractors.

65 percent planned to do at least a little of the work themselves.

50 percent of the people doing remodeling planned to spend 30 percent of their home’s current value on the projects.

50 percent were adding more rooms, including dens and bedrooms.

57 percent planned to add one or more bathrooms.

Respondents said they expected to stay in their homes for an average of 17 years after the remodel projects were complete.
