‘Kukumi’ wins the ‘official’ SpIFF 2007 prize

For the first time, the board of the Contemporary Arts Alliance has given out awards for the Spokane International Film Festival that it sponsors. You can access the SpIFF winners here .

One caveat: I wouldn’t have rewarded “Expiration Date” with a prize. Its being accepted into the festival was honor enough for such a slight little movie.

But I do commend the board for choosing “Kukumi” as Best Feature Film Drama and “Exit: The Right to Die” as Best Documentary. It was also nice to see the Spokane-based filmmaking quartet of Mike Corrigan, Travis Hiibner, Derrick King and Gary McLeod mentioned as Promising Filmmakers (even if only as runners-up).
