The day after the Cougs beat the Huskies

Joe Barrentine

The morning meeting started with a conversation about the Benzel leaving schools job story. The news broke at about 9:30 and then Sara Leaming had to finish her reporting and write it on deadline. The point was made that there was no prior knowledge about Benzel’s news and the entire story was reported after the evening’s meeting.

There was a conversation about the letters to the editor related to this photo.

Some said the number and presentation of the letters in the print edition added emphasis to the letters that may not have been deserved.

Gary Graham asked if there had been any feedback on the day’s Lynch follow.
(I have included the video of that portion of the meeting. Its about 6 minutes.)

In the meeting it was mentioned that the city asked the Spokesman-Review to replace the full report with a redacted version several hours after originally releasing the report.
Gary Graham commented on that:

“Given how difficult the Hession administration has made it to get this kind of information we’re in no mood to help them correct their mistake,” Graham said. “It’s a public document. They issued it. They’ve got to live with it. You can’t un-ring the bell after you’ve sent out something like that.”

Coverage of the Cougs basketball team was talked about a bit and most agreed that it was time to elevate the coverage of the No. 10 ranked team.

Looking ahead:

We are looking at jail options and updating the Kevin Coe case.
Be well.
Joe
