The more errors I read, the less hope I have
Just who are they graduating from public relations schools these days? Some people who send out press releases obviously aren’t familiar with the English language. Take the headline from this latest bit of news that I received from Home Media Daily : “2006 Titles: Less Films, More Box Office Punch.”
Less films? Let’s try fewer films.
I remember the last time I pointed out this error, when former UCLA basketball coach – now TV commentator – Steve Lavin committed it four or five times in a single broadcast, a reader chastised me, calling it an “honest mistake.”
Right. As someone who does broadcast on occasion, I know what it’s like to tangle up your syntax. But when you make the same mistake repeatedly, that’s simple ignorance. And it’s up to someone – an editor or producer, say – to point it out.
Unless, of course, the producer attended the same school that produced the person who wrote the Home Media Daily headline referred to above.
