Holiday leftovers
Editor Steve Smith has posted in his
blog
his view regarding a story over the weekend about what he called the “absurd position” of Spokane County regarding whether some jail records are public.
As for the overall Sunday package, Smith said he thought the out-of-the-box appeal for the cover page was again designed well.
Intern Jessica Meyers had a pair of front-page stories on the same day, including one regarding the departure of some Fairchild KC-135 tankers.
Other stories drawing comments at the table: Jessica Brown’s enterprise story in sports about the part-time jobs of Spokane Shock players; Tom Lutey’s Sunday feature on an aviation museum and his historical Exit 289 piece in today’s paper; John Stucke’s Empire Health analysis piece; and Jim Kershner’s historical piece on Gonzaga University.
The consensus: all of it well-written, but not too newsy.
“All in all, it felt like a summer paper,” said Smith.
