No ‘Sunshine’ yet for movie fans
Another letter from the movie-question mailbag. This one came in this morning:
“Hi Dan,
“I’ve checked both the
AMC
and
Regal
Web sites, and neither theatre chain has
‘Sunshine’
listed as a new release. Do you know if we’ll get it eventually? I would really like to see it in the theater. I really enjoyed
‘28 Days Later’
(but not
‘28 Weeks Later’
) and have high hopes for ‘Sunshine.’
Thanks! – Shawna”
Shawna:
You’re correct. “Sunshine” is not opening this weekend, though it had been listed on a tentative schedule. AMC in particular was supposed to get it, but the booker backed out.
I think, and this is just my opinion, that its opening here will depend on two factors: how well the film does elsewhere during its premiere weekend and how many other films are scheduled to open locally on Aug. 3. If it does well, or if there’s an opening next week – which at this point seems already to boast at least five films – then we’ll likely get it.
Then again, we may get it anyway. Sorry I can’t be any more specific.
– Dan Webster
Below: Cillian Murphy, shown here in a production still for the film “The Wind That Shakes the Barley,” is part of the ensemble cast for Danny Boyle’s sci-fi film “Sunshine.”
