Mommy Dearest /BrodH20: If only macrame had been my word. When I was in elementary school, I was a spelling bee champ. I smoked the classroom competition and the district contest and then — at regionals — I was eliminated on the word judicious. I sounded it out and put an “sh” where the c should have gone. It was a foreign word for me. Judicious. As a third-grader, I don’t think I’d ever heard that word used in conversation. But macrame? Macrame was certainly part of my vocabulary.
