Inside Huckleberries — 3/15/07

* Kelly McBride , a former CdA/SR bureau colleague who’s now an ethics group leader at the Poynter Institute (a training center for journalists in St. Petersburg, Fla.) opines in a Newsday.com about the similarity between the Scooter Libby crowd and high school adolescents here .

*Post Falls Dad: “I am drawn to (HBO) like Republicans to lobbyist. I can’t function without seeing what’s new and hearing from those all around the area. I rarely comment but love to see what people are thinking and how they deal with local issues. … It all started when DFO hammered me regarding a public debacle years ago and can’t stay away. I read it mobile, at work and at home. Is there a HBO-Anonymous meeting in town?” (DFO: If there is, I need to check into HBO-A, too. I’m addicted to blogging this.)

*Did you notice in the cutline below the Best of the INorthwest photo of the WSU/Oral Roberts BB game, that Taylor Rochestie was driving past Shawn King and Ken Tutt . Offered former SR colleague Kevin Taylor : “Did you notice in the basketball picture you posted that Rochestie is
beating King-Tutt? What’s that? Drive like an Egyptian?”

* Capt. Ben e-mails: “Judge Scott Wayman has approved the media to tape the first appearance proceedings against Victor Leon (Hayden guy who led gendarmes on wild chase after getting shot in the chest), today at 2 p.m. in Courtroom 12 at the Kootenai County Jail. This is a video court appearance and all recordings will be done from the monitor.”

*I returned from Java on Sherman a few minutes ago. At the Sherman Avenue coffee shop, I enjoyed shooting the breeze with Fotoman and former college Susan Drumheller of Sagle, who was escorting other Idaho Conservation League types around. Also, I met Gary Hoffman /Quest, Nic Casey /Rants, Raves & Random Thoughts, Patricia Johnson and her retired dentist husband, Clarence , and Java owner Sam Wallin (who bought the place from Jim Pierce .) As I was walking up Fourth to my car, I ran into former legislator Don Pischner , too. We kibitzed re: how terrible the current Idaho House is. Don was one of the area’s best solons in his day. In all, a fruitful morning on the street.
