Foster has her hands full in ‘The Brave One’

Dan

She doesns’t look much like Charles Bronson . But Jodie Foster , who has been making a go of it in Hollywood since 1969 when she was barely 7 years old, does seem to wield a gun as effectively as “Death Wish” Charlie ever did.

Foster does so in “The Brave One,” a film opening Friday that is about as close a remake of Michael Winner ’s 1974 “Death Wish” as you can have and still be something different. Or at least different enough for legal purposes.

The overall idea, though, is basically the same: Our protagonist suffers a devastating personal loss, and in response she/he picks up a gun and begins to wreak a bit of lead-themed revenge.

By the way, in an interview with Jon Stewart last night, Foster cracked the “Daily Show” host up. Stewart commented that he’d once held a gun in his hands. “And did you wet your pants?” Foster asked.

For once, Stewart was speechless. Two Oscars can give you that kind of power.

A .40-caliber Glock can, too.

Below: Jodie Foster takes to the streets in “The Brave One,” an updating of such revenge flicks as “Death Wish” for the post-9/11 generation.
