RSPA: Ain’t Gonna Get Rich Bloggin’
Only a miniscule proportion of bloggers make anything remotely approaching a livable wage from it … The Dooces and Perez Hiltons of theblogosphere can make their mortgages but the other 99.99% of bloggers aren’t even going to pay a weekly Starbucks bill. But don’t give up your dream if it’s staying home and getting rich blogging. Just be realistic. Blogging for me was never a commercial enterprise, God forbid I couldn’t have complete creative control over my own frickin’ blog. Even when I was bloggin’ hard and had thousands of uniques a day I never wrote a thing that wasn’t just for me … the fact that people were interested in what I had to rant and wax poetic about was both continually surprising and somewhat disturbing to me ;) But I never wanted to be dependent on a certain level of production or content. And I’ve never had to be. The only good money I’ve personally found in writing was a few years ago when I was writing chapters in training manuals for universities and fed govt agencies and billing $800/day. That was nice work. Blogging is more fun but tech writing can buy a new boat or cheerios with honey nuts/ Rainbow Sparkle Pony Angel
