Stevens County wins governor’s award, Liberty Lake and Colfax get nods of approval

Stevens County was one of nine cities and counties to win a 2007 Governor’s Smart Communities Award.

A news release sent by the governor’s office said Stevens County won the community development and planning award for public participation for the Stevens County comprehensive plan.

Liberty Lake and Colfax were among 20 municipalities nominated for the awards.

Liberty Lake was nominated for the specific plan overlay and nontraditional development project called Liberty Village. Liberty Village is a large mixed-use development that’s planned for the area.

Colfax received a nomination for its new comprehensive plan and zoning, following a large annexation.
