Architect and designer William McDonough offered a glimpse into his thoughts on the concept for the planned Mobius Science Center on the north bank of the Spokane River this evening.
“What if we could design a science center that was like a living thing?” he asked.
McDonough, known for designing a variety of forward-looking sustainable buildings, said he imagines “great transparency” in the building, in “all forms.”
“There’s a real presence there of geology,” he said, gesturing toward a rock outcrop on the north side of the center site after a speech. He could imagine the building “being an extension of that geology,” he said.
But, he said, “It’s dangerous for me to start designing without my team, because we work in such an iterative process.”
