The Slice: Poll: ‘Let’s move on’ haters ready to riot

I have a simple processing technique for unsigned correspondence.

But before I take that step with one recent note, I want to share it.

“My God, you are a slow learner,” wrote some anonymous shy person. “After so many people complained about your overuse of ‘Let’s move on,’ you continue to use it.

“Once people have gone to the trouble to tell you that they HATE the saying, it would be to your advantage to listen! Many are so bored (incensed) by the words that they are strongly considering not reading your comments.

“Once I saw ‘Let’s move on’ in today’s paper, I immediately stopped reading!”

OK, this person has a right to his or her opinion, of course. And, as unsigned mail goes, this was at least civil.

But I’d really like to know more about the surveying techniques leading to the confident assertion that “many” are “strongly considering” not reading The Slice.

Ahahahahaha. Yes, I’d love to overhear those conversations.

Let’s move on.

“Stories furniture salespersons tell: Apparently some people buy couches or beds that, upon delivery, turn out not to fit in the intended room.

I’m not talking about feng shui here. I mean, they literally won’t fit.

So remember to measure first.

“You know how William Shatner does those commercials for that one Spokane lawyer: Well, if Captain Kirk were going to promote your business, what would you want him to say?

“Hi, this is Bill Shatner. You and I both know that I’ve never glanced at The Spokesman-Review. Never even heard of it until I was handed this script. But I’m being paid a fair amount of money to tell you that you need to subscribe. So, take it from me … “

“Bubba’s House of Style: I was thinking about the transition to short sleeves. I asked a young colleague how his wardrobe was weighted — more long sleeves or more short-sleeve shirts? I’m sure he found this fascinating.

Anyway, he said that he usually liked to wear a necktie and so he needed to wear long sleeves most of the time. We agreed that wearing a tie with a short-sleeve shirt wasn’t universally regarded as a mark of elegance.

But what do you think of that look? Do you have any problem with wearing a tie with short sleeves?

“Which is the more common local nickname: Moose or Bear?

“What’s it like to be an Idaho Democrat: “A whole lot happier than we were seven years ago,” wrote Gil Beyer of Sandpoint.

“For the record: That crack about the ugly Spokane brewery appeared in John Gunther’s 1947 book, “Inside U.S.A.”

“Today’s Slice question: Do you truly have any spring cleaning rituals? (Something that doesn’t get done at other times also.)
