Loan assistance still available
Low-interest loans and down payment assistance for would-be homebuyers still are available through local nonprofits, Community Frameworks HomeStarts Program Manager John Fisher writes in response to our coverage Sunday of tightening credit standards. We alluded to programs from SNAP in the story, but he mentions others in a recent letter:
You are correct that options for many families, whether because of credit issues or the lack of a down payment, are indeed disappearing. Although lending institutions and mortgage brokers are having a hard time serving these families with an appropriate loan product, there are many non-profits and organizations that have loan products and down payment assistance available to help families in Spokane and the surrounding communities.
