Glatzer, being older, got there first

Dan

Bob Glatzer called me up the other day and asked whether I was going to give him credit for the title of the list of films that I am compiling under the heading “100 Films You Need to See Before You Die.”

In his book “Beyond Popcorn: A Critic’s Guide to Looking at Films,” Glatzer has his own list of favorite films that he calls “all the films you have to see before you die.”

To tell you the truth, I’d forgotten all about Glatzer’s list. And I didn’t even start using the overall title until my third blog post; until then, I was just suggesting films that were worth seeing.

And while there are similar films on both lists, that’s more because Glatzer and I – being only a decade or so apart in age – are both drawn to the best of 20th-century cinema. Besides, the two lists are set up differently (mine is set up in groups of 10, each of which follows a different theme).

Yet, OK, the title is similar enough that I need to say that Glatzer used it first.

Mine’s better, though.
