Lots to like about ‘Road House’ DVD

Dan

It’s no secret that one of the joys of movie-watching involves the surprise factor. My daughter just turned me onto one such pleasure.

She bought a copy of “Road House” for her husband’s 29th birthday because, she says, it’s one of his favorites. Ooooh-kaaay.

But that’s not the surprise. The surprise is that the version that she bought , which came out in 2006, features a commentary by filmmaker Kevin Smith and his perennial producer Scott Mosier.

And, she says, the witty banter that the two maintain throughout the film only enhances the viewing process. One riff that she particularly likes is the continual Chuck-Norris -type jokes that Smith and Mosier make, only substituting Patrick Swayze’s character.

I can see the start of a whole new cottage industry. How tough is Swayze’s James Dalton? James Dalton doesn’t get frostbite. He bites frost.

And so on.

Below: Kevin Smith and producer Scott Mosier, pictured in 1994 when “Clerks” debuted. The two provide the commentary for the DVD version of the 1989 Patrick Swayze film “Road House.”
