Times have changed for 3-D

Dan

When I was a kid, the movies boasted something called 3-D . It required that you wear a pair of cardboard and cellophane glasses, with what, one red and one green lens? I can’t remember.

Mainly because it never worked for me. Those movies that came out in 3-D – “House of Wax” and “Creature from the Black Lagoon” – were full of scenes where people threw stuff at the camera. But it was just annoying. And if I took the glasses off, I couldn’t see anything.

How times have changed. I went to see “Bolt” in 3-D over the weekend (at Regal’s NorthTown 12 ), and the result was stunning. Sure, the Pixar movie is merely fun and entertaining instead of, say, moving and profound the way “Finding Nemo” is.

But at least the digital 3-D actually works. And those new plastic glasses are far cooler than the cheap models of old.
