Angry Iraqi Throws Shoe @ Bush

Mr Bush received the taste of local resentment as he stood with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad to celebrate the approval of a security agreement that establishes the basis for a continued US military presence in Iraq. During a press conference with the two leaders, the Iraqi journalist took off his shoes and threw them at Mr Bush, one after the other. Throwing a shoe at someone is a grave insult in Iraq and is meant to show extreme disrespect and contempt — it means that the target is even lower than the shoe, which is always on the ground and dirty. When US forces helped topple a statue of Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein after rolling into Baghdad in April 2003, jubilant Iraqis beat the statue’s face with their shoes/ Australian . More here .
