Zags up big at half

Gonzaga opened up a big first-half lead, 53-19, over Texas Southern by knocking down nine 3-pointers and shooting 65 percent from the field.

Josh Heytvelt, limited to six points in Sunday’s loss to Arizona, scored 15 points. Micah Downs and Matt Bouldin each had 11. Bouldin and Downs each made three 3s. Heytvelt, Ira Brown and Steven Gray each made one 3-pointer.

Gonzaga finished the half on an 18-2 run. Texas Southern scored the first bucket of the game, but GU quickly answered with nine straight points.
