COUGARS

Got back to Pullman last night around 9 p.m. after writing my story, posting it to this blog and driving slowly down the highway. Come to find out an hour or so later that I beat the Washington State team bus back to town.

Seems the Cougars’ bus got stuck in the Kibbie Dome parking lot. Then got stuck going up a hill. Then got stuck again. They didn’t arrive back at campus until almost two hours after they left Moscow. The trip was a battle. Just like the game. Read on for links.

• We posted our thoughts, along with the long version of our story, here last night. Before you go on, I recommend you read it if you haven’t already. … You back? OK, let’s move on. Now that you know my thoughts, we can get on with the links. One reason I wanted you to go there first was, due to space limitations, much of what we wrote didn’t appear in print. The S-R version of our story was a slimmed down one. That’s fine, but I thought you might want more. Because I don’t have much in the way of links for you. The P-I, News Tribune and a bunch of other West Side papers ran some version of freelancer Howie Stalwick’s story while the Times added some Idaho quotes to an AP story . And that’s it.

• The Cougars are now off until they gather to leave Christmas Day for the LSU game two days later. After last night’s game, coach Tony Bennett mentioned they were going to have to see today whether or not the kids who were scheduled to travel would be able to. “We don’t want a planes, trains and automobiles kind of thing,” Bennett said, referring to the John Candy/Steve Martin ‘80s movie. Little did Bennett know he would have his own planes moment heading back to Pullman. … This afternoon I’ll post a feature I’m working on about former Cougar star Aaron Haskins and what he’s up to today. It’s part of our Then and Now series. Then we’ll be back as events warrant between now and the LSU game, WSU last nonconference contest before opening Pac-10 play at home vs. Washington on Jan. 3. If we don’t talk before Christmas, have a happy holiday. It will be a White Christmas all over the Northwest (thank you Bing Crosby). I hope it will be a good one for you and yours.
