‘Mamma’s Boy’ offers perfect ‘reality’ theater
I’m almost ashamed to admit that I watched “Mamma’s Boys” last night.
As it turns out, though, I’m glad that I did because I got to see Spokane’s own Megan Albertus pull off the night’s best performance.
Not to say that she wasn’t being authentic. I’ve talked to Megan over the phone once or twice – the Washington State University graduate has won our annual Oscar contest on multiple occasions – and even though she always struck me as bright and friendly, that’s far from actually knowing her.
That said, “Mamma’s Boy” is reality-television theater. And Albertus fit in perfectly, the “timid”-but-pretty woman who voluntarily left the show because she didn’t feel as if she deserved it.
Based on the reactions of those leaving messages on NBC’s online message board , Albertus struck a nerve – both good and bad. Which means that it shouldn’t shock anyone if the show’s producers brought her back as a “surprise.”
