Snow slows GSL pace

Mike Vlahovich

Last week’s snowtorm stranded me on my street and forced delays for Greater Spokane League baskeball. Tonight’s games will precede a 10-day winter break that hopefully will mean cleaner streets and parking lots, easier access to games and smoother sailing for the rest of the season. One thing for sure, is the 3A boys teams appear to be having an impact on the league and will put their best foot forward come regional play when four teams advance. Here’s my weekly prep notebook that appearned in today’s S-R.

North Central continues to be the surprise of the league following narrow wins over Central Valley and Ferris. Nathan Pelton, Darwin Nelson and and 6-8 Lucas Evans are double figures scorers and Isaiah Antoine is close, although coach Jay Webber says he hasn’t played his best yet. With Shadle Park, Mt. Spokane and Rogers in the fight, 3A is more interesting than 4A right now. Gonzaga Prep already has a two-game lead over its contemporaries so the fight is for second and right now little separates the other five. It’s safe to say, even the 1-4 teams, Central Valley and University currently have hope.
