Vikings pull stunner
The Portland State Vikings had trouble just getting to Spokane — arriving via a charter bus trip that was split over two days after their flight was canceled Monday — but that didn’t stop them from pulling off one of the biggest upsets in college basketball this season.
Jeremiah Dominguez, a 5-foot-6 guard, poured in seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points to lift PSU (9-3) to a 77-70 win over No. 7 Gonzaga (8-3) on Tuesday. The Vikings became just the third visiting team to win at the McCarthey Athletic Center, joining Washington State last year and Santa Clara two seasons ago. GU is now 55-3 at the MAC, which opened for the 2004-05 season.
Matt Bouldin led the Zags with 18 points, but the Bulldogs were outboarded 39-30, which led to PSU’s 27-5 edge in second chance points.
