Note To Self: Sometimes Jail Is Only Alternative

I’m not a cop. I was a prosecutor for several years but I was also a public defender early in my career. I no longer practice criminal law but I am sympathetic to the institutions that are charged with “protecting” the public. It’s thankless and there are no easy solutions. I watched people get chance after chance after chance. Nobody I knew was quick to throw simple drug users into jail. At some point, however, you run out of options. I wish we could figure out some alternatives, but we haven’t yet/ Note To Self .
