WinCo to extend road to ease traffic

Parker

The Spokane City Council has signed off on a deal between WinCo Foods LLC and the city calling for the grocery chains to extend a road to help alleviate traffic from its proposed North Spokane store, a councilwoman said.

Under the agreement, Boise-based WinCo will extend East Jay Avenue from its current end at North Dakota Street to meet North Nevada Street, satisfying state and city traffic-mitigation requirements.

When fully developed, the commercial center at 9257 N. Nevada St. will generate roughly 9,000 new vehicle trips per day, according to city documents. At peak evening hours, it will generate nearly 850 new vehicle trips.

The company this summer revealed plans for a 94,000 square-foot store on the site. The extended road will connect the store to an existing Wal-Mart to the west.
