Will you go see ‘Hancock’ a second time?

While reading an Associated Press story about the weekend’s movie grosses, I came across the following quote: “Audiences don’t care what critics say; they’re going to turn out for anything he does.”

This was from someone named Chad Hartigan, an analyst for Exhibitor Relations , a company that follows the movie market. Hartigan was responding to the fact that “Hancock,” in which Smith plays a drunken jerk of a superhero, has made some $107. 3 million since its release Thursday night – despite the movie’s mixed reviews from critics.

Actually, the question to ask here isn’t whether critics are right but whether the crowds, having seen the film, agree that this isn’t a first-rate Smith offering.
